WESTCHESTER COUNTY FAIR CAMPAIGN PRACTICES COMM. FINDS THE CROTON DEMS PUGH, ATTIAS & HOROWITZ ENGAGED IN UNFAIR CAMPAIGN PRACTICES AGAINST CROTON UNITED

CROTON UNITED, PRESS RELEASE, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 10/27/17 - Croton Democratic Committee, Trustee Brian Pugh, and Trustee Candidates Amy Attias and Sherry Horowitz Engaged in Unfair Campaign Practices Against Croton United

In findings issued today, the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee (FCPC) ruled that the Croton Democratic Committee, Trustee Brian Pugh, and Trustee Candidates Amy Attias and Sherry Horowitz made three inaccurate statements that constitute unfair campaign practices.

In a separate finding the FCPC ruled that none of the five complaints filed against Croton United by the Croton Democratic Committee and Trustee Brian Pugh were unfair.

Croton United was founded in 2014. This is the fourth time in four election campaigns that the Croton Democratic Committee and Trustee Brian Pugh have been cited for unfair campaign practices against our nonpartisan community organization.

Croton United Chair Ken Walsh said, “Engaging in honest communication with the public is one of Croton United’s core values. These findings demonstrate that we have run a truthful campaign, while our opponents, as in the past, have done otherwise.”

These are the three “unfair” findings issued today:

COMPLAINT 1: Ms. Schuyler complained that, in a letter that was then posted online, the Croton Democratic Committee and candidates engaged in an unfair campaign practice by claiming that Croton United opposed the rezoning of the Harmon area.
FINDING: UNFAIR

The statement is inaccurate because Croton United did not yet exist when the
rezoning of the Harmon area was discussed by the Village Board.

COMPLAINT 2: Ms. Schuyler complained that the Croton Democratic Committee and candidates engaged in an unfair campaign practice by claiming that Croton United opposed the Croton Landing riverfront purchase.
FINDING: UNFAIR

The statement is inaccurate because Croton United did not yet exist at the time of
the Croton Landing riverfront purchase.

COMPLAINT 5: Ms. Schuyler complained that the Croton Democratic Committee and Mr. Pugh engaged in an unfair campaign practice by claiming in June 2017 that Mr. Pugh was an attorney even though he was not admitted to practice law until October 4, 2017.
FINDING: UNFAIR

At the time of the letter, Mr. Pugh was not an attorney.

For copies of both findings and additional information about the FCPC see their website www.faircampaignpractices.org
